The Diego Martin Borough Corporation (DMBC) was established under the Municipal Corporations Act, Chapter 25:04 of the Laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Its elevation from a regional corporation to a borough was effected by the Miscellaneous Provisions (Establishment of the Borough of Diego Martin and the Borough of Siparia) Act, No. 6 of 2023, which was assented to on June 9, 2023, and proclaimed into operation on June 20, 2023. The DMBC is responsible for governance, administration, and development within the borough, including public health and sanitation, infrastructure maintenance, market regulation, building oversight, land development, litter prevention, community development, and disaster management.
